Depending on vintage, various barrels comprising destemmed or whole-bunch fruit are blended, for '16 the mix is 30/70%. A surprisingly lighter hue of pale-mid ruby; it's ethereal with a certain elegance, it feels as unforced as the cherry-accented fruit with forest floor aromas and florals. Not quite medium-bodied, filigreed tannins, sweet, savoury and moreish. Lovely wine. Jane Faulkner, Halliday Wine Companion

Based in the cool‑climate Yarra Valley of Victoria, Timo Mayer is a small, highly individualistic winery founded in 1999 by German‑born winemaker Timo Mayer and his partner Rhonda. Drawing on more than 400 years of his family’s winemaking heritage and a keen belief that “wines are made in the vineyard,” the estate produces handcrafted, single‑vineyard wines with minimal intervention—unfiltered, unfined and often using whole‑bunch fermentation to enhance complexity and texture. Known for expressive Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and an adventurous range that includes Syrah, Nebbiolo and Gamay, Timo Mayer’s wines reflect the unique character of their sites and have earned a cult following for their authenticity, balance and cool‑climate precision.
