Billaud-Simon Valmur Chablis Grand Cru 2023

Once again the wood influence is present though not intrusive on the toasty and spicy nose of citrus rind, green fruit, phenolic and plenty of classic Chablis elements. There is impressive volume to the super-sleek and notably powerful, even muscular, larger-scaled flavors that culminate in a markedly dry but only moderately austere finale. The tiniest parcel of grand cru here, just 0.18 ha – also right at the top near their parcel of Les Clos. Two barrels but stainless-steel barrels. Less coloured. This nose is smaller but more incisive. Clearly more direct and intense – the most of these GCs so far. Quite linear finishing flavour that’s juicy but also overtly mineral – widening too with a chalky impression. That’s a great wine – a hint strict finishing so you should wait – I’d wait until this evening !! Bill Nanson, The Burgundy Report
