Balnaves of Coonawarra

Established in 1975, Balnaves of Coonawarra is a family-owned estate located on the southern end of the famed Terra Rossa strip in Coonawarra. The Balnaves family has deep roots in the district dating back to 1855, with Doug and Annette Balnaves planting their first vines—Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz—in the mid-1970s after transitioning from farming. The first wines under the Balnaves label were released in 1990 when the next generation, Pete and Kirsty Balnaves, joined the family business. Today the winery remains proudly family-run, producing wines from estate-grown fruit that showcase the distinctive character of Coonawarra’s cool climate and renowned Terra Rossa soils.
