Trophy-winner for Best Red Blend at the 2016 Royal Melbourne Wine Awards, this wine went on to win Stephen Pannell the McLaren Vale Bushing King title for the second consecutive year. This unique single-vineyard blend came about because the grapes ripened at the same time. 50% Touriga, 44% Cabernet and 6% Mataro were hand-harvested and crushed together in one open-top fermenter, where they were co-fermented. Spent nine days on skins and 11 months in oak.

The only surprising piece of background is that it took (an admittedly still reasonably youthful) Steve Pannell and wife Fiona so long to cut from Constellation/Hardys and establish their own winemaking and consulting business. Steve radiates intensity and his extended experience has resulted in wines of the highest quality, right from the first vintage. The Pannells have 2 vineyards in McLaren Vale, the first planted in 1891 with a precious 3.6ha of shiraz.
