A vibrant dark purple colour and the most approachable in the range this vintage, yet as always, this is something else. Such a unique offering to the world of wine. A core of bright fruit, laced with spice, a squeeze of blood orange and wafts of ironstone and warm earth. The flavours play off a medium-bodied palate with furry, grainy tannins, and great persistence. A star of the vintage, but each to their own – it's hard to pick a favourite. Wendouree

Wendouree is one of Australia’s most revered and historically significant wineries, established in the Clare Valley of South Australia in 1893 by Alfred Percy Birks and later acquired in 1974 by custodians Tony and Lita Brady, who have maintained its traditional approach for decades. The estate’s dry‑grown, very old vineyards—including Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and Mataro—produce exceptionally concentrated, age‑worthy red wines in extremely limited quantities that are primarily offered to a dedicated mailing list rather than through a cellar door. With its original stone winery still largely intact and a cult reputation among collectors for wines of depth, structure and regional expression, Wendouree stands as a treasured piece of Australian wine heritage.
