The Clos des Varoilles monopole is an impressive 6 hectare holding that has been purchased by Domaine Prieure Roch. The plot is in the northern part of Gevrey in the Combe Lavaux. For the 2023 harvest the Domaine produced two wines from this plot & the “ Clos des Variolles is the finest & most detailed example , coming from the southern part of the vineyard this has finesse and a elegance due to its optimum exposure.

Prieure Roch

Domaine Prieuré Roch is one of Burgundy’s true cult domaines, founded in 1988 by the late Henry-Frédéric Roch, former co-director of the legendary Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, nephew of Lalou Bize-Leroy, and grandson of the great Henry Leroy. Burgundy was quite literally in his blood. Built on exceptional Côte de Nuits vineyard holdings, including prized monopoles in Vosne-Romanée, Gevrey Chambertin and Nuits-Saint-Georges, the domaine is devoted to wines of purity, energy and site expression rather than overt winemaking influence. Under the guidance of Yannick Champ (now 20 years at the helm), the Prieuré Roch philosophy remains unchanged: organic and biodynamic-leaning viticulture, native yeast fermentations, 100% whole bunch vinification, no fining, no filtration and little to no added sulphur. The wines are generous, aromatic and deeply expressive, yet carrying freshness, balance and the unmistakable wild, sensual signature of Prieuré Roch.
