TASTING_NOTES_HEADING_BLACK

A fine bright crimson purple. The nose is cleaner and brighter than the straight Gevrey. Clean, clear-cut fruit with some cherry notes, not too ripe, middleweight, with fresh energy at the back. Merits its role as a top village location. JASPER MORRIS, INSIDE BURGUNDY

"Pierre Boillot is a master of terroir-driven red Burgundy. With old vines, a focus on the vineyards, and minimal manipulation in the cellar, his wines express the purity and elegance we all seek out in Burgundian Pinot Noir. “Les Evocelles” is an upper-slope parcel adjacent to many of Gevrey’s premier cru sites. It is treated with the same care as the domaine’s premiers crus, and will certainly age like one." - Kermit Lynch Wine Merchant

Lucien Boillot

Domaine Lucien Boillot & Fils traces its roots to a storied Côte d'Or lineage, with the Boillot family deeply entrenched in both Volnay and Gevrey-Chambertin for generations. Lucien Boillot, originally based in Volnay, made the decisive move to Gevrey-Chambertin in the mid-20th century, seeking to consolidate and expand his vineyard holdings in the Côte de Nuits. His two sons, Pierre and Louis, eventually went their separate ways: Pierre Boillot remained in Gevrey, continuing under the Lucien Boillot & Fils label, while Louis Boillot established his own domaine in Chambolle-Musigny. Pierre maintained a diverse and traditional portfolio, remarkably spanning appellations across both the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune — a rarity in Burgundy today. Under Pierre’s careful stewardship, the domaine has upheld old-school, low-intervention methods, working with old vines and minimal new oak to express the terroir with authenticity. When a little parcel of Perrières was for sale in 2006, Pierre Boillot hedged his offer by proposing a parcel of his Volnay vines to the seller. Despite a series of unlikely events involving a committee of proud Puligny residents who clamored to protect the parcel from an ‘outsider’, Pierre’s offer turned out to be too good to pass up, and he acquired the vines. This white is a rare pearl: floral on the nose, with volume and roundness on the palate, and a long, long finish.
