Domaine de la Romanee Conti La Tache Grand Cru 2023

The emphasis on opulence of the 2023 La Tâche is completely consistent with my impression out of barrel, with forward black cherry and mulberry fruit aromas, prominent floral notes, and hints of smoke and spice. The texture is dense, with a tannic line that was lush and supple yet supported the fruit and balanced the acidity seamlessly. The combination of freshness, firm tannin, and fruit draws the wine out to an impossibly long finish. My impression on the day was that this wine has just about everything. This year, during my round of tastings at the Domaine, the 2023 La Tâche Grand Cru is a step above the preceding Grand Crus. It has amazing complexity and fine delineation on the nose, with mineral-rich red fruit, hints of black olive and light sea cave scents. This is overtly mercurial in the glass, the barrel sample constantly urging you back. The palate is beautifully balanced with tremendous weight, transparent red fruit and pliant tannins. Multi- layered with hints of blood orange, it is pure and sensual on the finish, fanning out wonderfully. This is an exceptionally fine La Tâche. Drink 2030-2070. 96-98 points Neal Martin, Vinous
