Aromas of pear, ripe citrus fruits, freshly baked bread and toasted almonds introduce Coche's 2023 Meursault Village, a medium- to full-bodied, seamless and layered wine that's lively and giving, with a fleshy core of fruit and a precise finish. William Kelley - The Wine Advocate

Producer

Coche Dury

There are few Domaines in Burgundy that garner, and rightfully deserve, as much praise than that of Coche-Dury. And yet, for all of the superlatives used to describe this elusive producer, they are all justified. This is a source of beautifully balanced, fine but deeply layered wine that is nigh on impossible to find, and demand continues to soar. It’s a credit to both the benchmark viticulture and exacting winemaking approach that have set a legendary standard across the Côte d'Or’s diverse landscape. Domaine Coche-Dury produces tiny yields of some of the very greatest white wines in Burgundy, probably the most sought-after of all white Burgundy estates. It has even achieved a cult status! Described by Robert Parker as one of the "greatest winemakers on planet earth", they are known for producing exceptionally intense, powerful and long-lived wines. “The 2023 vintage is another strong year for this 10-hectare domaine, where Raphaël Coche has held the reins since 2010 after more than a decade working alongside his father, Jean-François. Much has been written about the Coche-Dury "magic," but the rudiments are simple: attentive viticulture (now with somewhat higher hedging and seasonal cover crops); harvesting ripe fruit in a timely fashion; a rare aptitude - which seems to have been passed down from father to son - for knowing how hard to press and for how long; careful choice of barrels; and long, patient and meticulously supervised fermentations and élevage, with the wines spending two winters on the lees. Attention to detail at every step along the way delivers wines distinguished by their incisive acids, striking intensity and frequently appreciable presence of dry extract. Over the years, there has been evolution, of course, something I've written about in previous reports in detail, but the fundamentals remain the same. The 2023 vintage is very expressive out of the gates but also very clearly defined by terroir - an unusual combination that lends it considerable appeal.” William Kelly - The Wine Advocate, Feb 2026
