TASTING_NOTES_HEADING_BLACK

The 2009 is the finest Chasse Spleen since the 1989. Its deep purple color is accompanied by notes of graphite, black currants, sweet spice, and a hint of Chinese black tea. Full-bodied and opulent with well-integrated acidity, tannin, wood, and alcohol, it is a lush beauty to enjoy over the next 20+ years. (Tasted two times). Robert Parker

Chateau Chasse Spleen

Château Chasse‑Spleen is a historic Bordeaux wine estate in the Moulis‑en‑Médoc appellation of France, with documented viticultural roots dating back to the 16th century and the name adopted in 1863 to suggest wines that “chase away the blues.” Long recognised for quality, it was classified as a Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel and is widely regarded today at a cru classé standard. After acquisition in 1976 by the Merlaut family, major investments and stewardship by Jacques Merlaut’s granddaughter Céline Villars‑Foubet have propelled the estate’s reputation for elegant, terroir‑driven Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot blends that balance structure and finesse. The estate also produces second wines such as l’Oratoire de Chasse‑Spleen and L’Héritage de Chasse‑Spleen, showcasing its deep Bordeaux heritage and commitment to quality.
