A holding of 4 ouvrées, en fermage. Ageing is in new 350 litre barrels, older 228s and a wine globe. Pale lemon colour. The Charmes has a very classy, balanced nose that absolutely speaks of Charmes. The tiny reduction comes from the glass wine globe maybe. Very forceful on the palate, a fine thread of fruit-laden acidity, and excellent length. Just keeps on going! Camille & Guillaume Boillot is a label that’s new and genuinely exciting to discover, particularly after many years of selling, drinking and certainly enjoying the wines of the famed family label Henri Boillot. Guillaume Boillot, formerly the winemaker at his father’s eponymous domaine, has now established his own label. Over the coming decade, more of Henri’s vineyards will gradually be passed down through the family tree, making this a great opportunity to introduce the next generation of an iconic Burgundy family whose history in the region dates back centuries. When their neighbour in Puligny-Montrachet contacted Guillaume Boillot and his wife Camille after the 2021 vintage, offering to sell them his vines in Les Enseignères and Corvée Aux Moines, the idea of a new label was born. The Boillots had long wanted to have a project of their own for themselves and their children, separate from the family Domaine/Maison Henri Boillot, and that finally came to pass with the 2022 vintage. Guillaume continues to use a vertical press, something he began in 2017 at the family's winery, and he's using less new oak (what he does use is sourced from François Frères and Trémeaux), so the style is somewhat more discreet and understated. Given his long experience, it's hardly surprising that these first wines have turned out so well, but it will be exciting to follow over the coming years.
