Focused and textured, showing sliced apples and lemons with hints of dried pears and crushed stones on the nose. Full-bodied with chewy phenolics that add to the salty, subtle fruit. Limes at the end. Structured and impressive, this is a beautiful follow-up after the terrific 2023. A powerful and rather muscular chardonnay that highlights the quality of the fruit. 100% barrel-fermented and aged 11 months. James Suckling

Te Mata

The Te Mata Estate Vineyards Chardonnay was created with varied winemaking techniques, such as tank fermentation to emphasise the fruit and freshness, barrel fermentation (some with gross lees), to give texture and flavour, and malolactic fermentation to add creamy richness. The list of aromas and flavours is numerous: citrus, stone fruit, sourdough, pineapple, cashew, sea salt. Like the Te Mata Estate Syrah, this Chardonnay offers amazing value. The Chardonnay grapes came from Te Mata's estate vineyards in the Hawkes Bay subregions of Woodthorpe Terraces, Bridge Pa Triangle and Havelock Hills. Like Cabernet, Merlot and Syrah, Chardonnay grows really well here, where it can ripen fully and present lovely tropical aromas and flavours.
