Meaty and yet loaded with red and black cherry juice, lots of spice, some earthiness and truffle-like savouriness, faint woody spices, flinty minerality and a wash of stony, smoky reduction over it all. It's a strict and structured calling of gamay, tannins are fine, acidity perky and present, but the mainframe is lean, racy fruit character with lots of savouriness in tow. It's one that needs some time, but you can see the quiet complexity in play and the understated beauty emerging. Stay tuned. Mike Bennie, Halliday Wine Companion
