"From the smallest plot of a quite small Burgundian estate comes a rare and grandiose wine from the illustrious Côte Chambertin (as this slope is colloquially called in these parts). Boillot’s touch is on full display here with equal parts power and grace. Soak in the smoky hints of this bottling’s vast perfume, relish those melted tannins, and you just may find yourself asking if Gevrey can get any better than this. Ready to drink now." - Kermit Lynch Wine Merchant

Lucien Boillot

Domaine Lucien Boillot & Fils traces its roots to a storied Côte d'Or lineage, with the Boillot family deeply entrenched in both Volnay and Gevrey-Chambertin for generations. Lucien Boillot, originally based in Volnay, made the decisive move to Gevrey-Chambertin in the mid-20th century, seeking to consolidate and expand his vineyard holdings in the Côte de Nuits. His two sons, Pierre and Louis, eventually went their separate ways: Pierre Boillot remained in Gevrey, continuing under the Lucien Boillot & Fils label, while Louis Boillot established his own domaine in Chambolle-Musigny. Pierre maintained a diverse and traditional portfolio, remarkably spanning appellations across both the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune — a rarity in Burgundy today. Under Pierre’s careful stewardship, the domaine has upheld old-school, low-intervention methods, working with old vines and minimal new oak to express the terroir with authenticity. When a little parcel of Perrières was for sale in 2006, Pierre Boillot hedged his offer by proposing a parcel of his Volnay vines to the seller. Despite a series of unlikely events involving a committee of proud Puligny residents who clamored to protect the parcel from an ‘outsider’, Pierre’s offer turned out to be too good to pass up, and he acquired the vines. This white is a rare pearl: floral on the nose, with volume and roundness on the palate, and a long, long finish.
