TASTING_NOTES_HEADING_BLACK

Delivers blackberry, licorice and dark chocolate character on the nose. Full and rich, with velvety tannins and a long finish. Smoky, decadent and wonderful. The best wine from this estate in a long, long time. Best after 2013. James Suckling, Wine Spectator

Chateau Durfort Vivens

Château Durfort‑Vivens is a historic and prestigious wine estate in the Margaux appellation of Bordeaux, France, originally established on land owned by the Durfort de Duras family in the 14th century and carrying the combined name after acquisition by the Vivens family in 1824. Classified as a Deuxième Cru (Second Growth) in the famed 1855 Bordeaux Wine Official Classification, the estate became part of the Lurton family in the 20th century, with Lucien Lurton acquiring it in 1961 and his son Gonzague taking the helm in 1992. Under his leadership, Durfort‑Vivens has embraced organic and biodynamic viticulture—becoming the first Margaux classified growth to achieve both certifications—and employs meticulous vineyard and cellar practices, including ageing wine partly in amphorae, to produce elegant, terroir‑driven Bordeaux reds that express the depth and finesse of its gravelly Margaux soils.
